Clayton Redevelopment Project
The Clayton area of Manchester is the latest area of the city to be transformed by redevelopment.
Thor Helical Remedial have been involved in designing the masonry repair solutions for 2000 houses recently transferred from local authority ownership to housing association control.
The Properties were suffering from a number of masonry defects, including Cavity wall tie failure, weak brickwork mortar. The problems were made worse as that the intention was to replace the original brickwork supporting window frames with energy efficient, non structural U.P.V.C. frames.
The walls are now tied using Thor Helical Drive fix wall ties, which were site proven to be the highest performing Helical wall tie available.
Non visible, Retro fit Thor helical Lintels were installed to support the brickwork over the window opening, prior to the replacement of the original window frames, allowing the glazing contractors to follow on safely and swiftly with the replacement windows, without fear of overhead masonry collapse.
The weak bed joint mortar was then re-pointed incorporating Thor Helical Wire in every 6th horizontal bed joint.
Our contractors were then able to provide a full insurance backed warrantee against future masonry defects. For all properties repaired.
